Fantasy Football Preview: Najee at the Top?

Story by Yinzer Crazy Fantasy Football Guru Luke Ranalli

Since the HOF game, I've been dreaming of touchdowns, first downs, and heading dahntahn for some Primanti Brothers. Honestly I just haven't had enough fries on my sammiches lately and that's just not acceptable.

Anyway, I have been thinking about my upcoming drafts so I thought I'd share my top 5 for running backs and wide receivers to help scratch some of the itch until that day comes.

Running Backs:

1. Jonathan Taylor - Taylor is coming off a MONSTER year of 1,811 rushing yards, 20 total touchdowns, and he's still one of the youngest backs on the Colts roster at 23. The acquisition of Philip Lindsay could take away from some of Taylors production, but I don't see it being a huge factor. Matt Ryan is going to need all the help he can get in his first new offense since entering the league as a Falcon in 2008, and with Michael Pittman Jr. being arguably the most notable threat at WR, Taylor should be a crutch for Matty Ice until he gets comfortable spreading the ball around.

2. Derrick Henry - Last season, old reliable wasn't so reliable after all, missing 9 games and for only the third time in his career, rushed for under 1k yards. This season has huge bounceback potential for Henry though, and with the absence of AJ Brown, Ryan Tannehill may be more dependent than ever on Henry. That's not to say there isn't potential for an air game, the Titans did trade for Robert Woods during the offseason and drafted a stud in Treylon Burks, but this is Ryan Tannehill we're talking about so I don't think it will be too pass heavy too soon. Although, who knows, maybe Malik Willis gets a chance to sling some this season.

3. Najee Harris - No this isn't just because I'm a yinzer, but yeah, there is some bias. Najee rushed for over 1k yards his rookie season and had 10 touchdowns, best of all no fumbles. Najee may have been 5th or lower on my list if Jeremy McNichols wasn't entering the season on the IR, but that fact changes a lot. I feel like the Steelers want to work in some more backs to ensure Najee stays healthy down the road, but Benny Snell and Anthony McFarland haven't proven they can be very productive on the reps they've gotten in the past. I'm interested to see how Master Teague gets worked in, but until McNichols is healthy I don't see Najee sharing too many snaps, and even then, who knows just how much McNichols will play when he's healthy. With the possible QB carousel that could take place this season, Najee should remain the most productive weapon this offense has.

4. Nick Chubb - I don't think this is going to be a very popular opinion, but I think Chubb has the potential to be the best back this season. Chubb should be coming off his 4th consecutive 1k yard rushing season but unfortunately he was 4 yards shy of that his rookie year. This year, Chubb is the clear cut RB one on a team that's in shambles offensively, with a huge question mark at QB, no real notable wide receivers, and now it's rumored that Kareem Hunt wants to be traded. D'Ernest Johnson had some good games last year when Hunt and Chubb were hurt, but I don't think he will have the same impact as Hunt if Hunt gets traded. Looking at the way this team is going, I see Chubb rushing until the wheels fall off this season.

5. Dalvin Cook - I was going to put Christian McCaffrey here but for the same reason I didn't throw McCaffery in, I was hesitant to put Cook here. Don't get me wrong, Cook is an absolute beast! What is so impressive about Cook is that he has 1k + yards his past three seasons, what's more impressive is he hasn't played more than 14 games in each of those seasons. Cook is injury prone and that always makes me nervous, but if he can stay healthy for an entire season, who knows what kind of numbers he can achieve. Alexander Mattison had some decent games in Cook's absence last year, you might want to try and snag him late as a handcuff if you nab Cook in your draft.

Wide Receivers

1. Ja'Marr Chase - I know a lot of you will be questioning this choice, but I think it might be the most solid one. No matter how much I don't want to admit it, this Bengals team is a force to be reckoned with, and Chase will be at the top of Joe Burrows targets. Chase had a huge rookie year with 14 hundred yards receiving, 81 receptions, and 13 TD's. One might have thought Burrow and Chase would have needed more time to have a season like they did, but a trip to the Super Bowl proved otherwise. This Bengals receiving core hasn't changed much over the last year, and if Burrow and Chase remain healthy, I think they have the potential to be the league's most effective duo.

2. Cooper Kupp - I know this is what most were expecting to be my number 1 pick, and with his stats last year it seems like a no brainer, but things have been changing in LA. The Rams lost some experience with Von Miller on defense but more importantly their best tackle in Andrew Whitworth. The Rams also signed Allen Robinson to the squad who has the potential to return to form, and overtake some of Kupps production. That's not to say that Kupp still isn't the best option that Mathew Stafford has, and that Kupp won't be a powerhouse again this year. What I am saying though is having another season over 19 hundred yards is unlikely, and I don't think Kupp will be coming close to those types of numbers again this year.

3. Tyreek Hill - Hill has always been the go-to man for Patrick Mahomes, but now that Hill isn't in Kansas anymore will he be as productive? In my opinion, Hill is poised for one of his best seasons so far. Tua Tagovailoa needs to prove himself this season that he can be a starter in this league, and he absolutely has the tools to do it this year. Hill has the likes of Jaylen Waddle and Mohamed Sanu to compliment him down field, as long as Tua stays healthy and Hill can avoid getting turf toe, this could be one of the best new duos in the game.

4. Davante Adams - Adams has been an undeniable superstar for years with Aaron Rodgers as his QB, but now for the first time in his career, he will be donning a different jersey. This is hard for me because I think Derek Carr might be one of the worst quarterbacks ever, but that's an unpopular opinion of mine. I feel like Adams is going to elevate everyone on this team including Carr, I just don't know by how much, but I do think it helps that Carr was Adams' QB when they played together at Fresno State. It's hard to pass up Adams when it comes to elite receivers, but I think this season is going to be a boom or bust. Adams has been Rodgers main target for nearly a decade, and I think Carr just found the weapon he needs to finally live up to the hype.

5. Deebo Samuel - This one was tough but I really feel like Deebo is going to be even better than previous years. Deebo had some massive yards last season but his fumbles (4) and lack of touchdowns through the air were lackluster. What he failed to do with catches though, he made up for in rushing with over 300 yards and 8 TD's. Deebo is the definition of versatile and I really think he is going to have an explosive season with all the hype around Trey Lance. The only reason Deebo isn't higher on this list is because Trey Lance may not pan out. If Lance can live up to the hype, Deebo should be a monster.
