Steelers Wish-List Wednesday: Graham Barton, OL, Duke

It’s no secret that the Steelers are looking for an offensive lineman in this year’s draft. 

Amarius Mims and Jackson Powers-Johnson are the popular names based on need, but there has been one prospect that has risen on the charts. And, honestly, it is time to start giving this prospect his deserved flowers.

Graham Barton didn’t start this draft process with a ton of recognition. His name has been popping up on various mock drafts and all-around Steelers Nation. Barton, 6’5” and 313 pounds, is one of the best athletes in the draft. He played left tackle at Duke and is projected to be a guard/center at the next level. 

In 2022 and 2023, Barton was selected to the First-Team All-ACC at left tackle, despite missing a few games. He also played center, so the position flexibility box is checked. He is a powerful run blocker who brings nastiness to any offensive line group. He has a powerful punch; although, his arms aren’t the ideal length. His overall athleticism should be a crucial part of his potential success in the NFL. 

The Steelers sent new Offensive Coordinator Arthur Smith to Barton’s Pro-Day at Duke. And I think it’s safe to say that Smith was impressed with Barton. Anyone of that size running a sub-5.0 will catch the eye of any scout.

Barton’s biggest attribute is his athleticism. He scored a 9.99 out of 10 on his RAS (Relative Athletic Score). To put that in perspective, that is the third best of all time, a stat that started in 1987. The Steelers would be fortunate to pick someone of Barton’s athleticism/caliber either at pick 20 or 51.
