Steelers Wish-List Wednesday: WR Adonai Mitchell

The Steelers face a major issue going into the draft… They have no wide receivers outside of George Pickens. Ok, well, they don’t have a WR2 on the team. They did sign Van Jefferson and Quez Watkins during the free agent period but I’m not sure either will be asked to help much. If the Steelers went into camp with the current receiver room, would you feel comfortable? Probably not, right? I feel the same way, so for this week a – receiver is at the top of my wish-list.

Texas WR Adonai Mitchell could fall to the Steelers. Listen, at 6’2”, 205 pounds, he is the type of receiver and redzone threat the Steelers look for. He blazed a 4.34 forty-yard dash at the NFL Combine a few weeks ago. His 39.5” vertical jump and 11’4” broad jump are nothing to look over either. His NFL comparison is George Pickens. So why wouldn’t the Steelers want two George Pickens-like talents?

“AD” Mitchell is a winner. He led the Texas Longhorns to the playoffs. And he’s a two-time National Champion at Georgia. Omar Khan would be finessing the NFL teaming him back up with George Pickens, Darnell Washington, and Broderick Jones.

Last season, Mitchell had 55 receptions for 845 yards and 11 touchdowns. Those are good numbers from one of the most explosive offenses. He has the talent to compete and excel against NFL competition. He has good footwork, is quick and shifty, and can make crazy catches like another receiver we know. I think it makes all the sense in the world to grab him. Especially if the Steelers can take him in round two.

From a talent perspective, Pittsburgh can’t miss by taking Mitchell. Is receiver the biggest need on the team? No. But I’ll argue it’s more of a need than offensive tackle. And maybe he falls out of round one and the Steelers trade up for him. That’s probably the most realistic option here - and I’m all for it.
