The Ultimate Pipe Dream: Justin Jefferson and the Steelers?

The Pittsburgh Steelers traded Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers this week. Receiver is a big hole on the roster now, and rumors are circulating all around social media. Names like Tyler Boyd, Hollywood Brown (signed with Kansas City), and Calvin Ridley (who signed with Tennessee) are popular names that have been associated with the Steelers. But there is now a bigger rumor floating around, that the Steelers could consider Justin Jefferson from Minnesota via trade.

This rumor comes from former Steelers receiver Antonio Brown, ha! It is Antonio Brown we’re talking about, so I understand any skepticism. But just remember ... his "source" has proved itself somewhat valid from predicting the Russell Wilson signing to the Steelers among others.

Additionally, Justin Jefferson is not happy in Minnesota. Maybe he is looking for new scenery. If he is, the Steelers would be doing themselves a disservice to not have interest in the All-Pro receiver. And add that to the fact that the Steelers' current wide receiver room is not looking good now.

The biggest question is whether that is even possible. And who would the Steelers give up for a player of Jefferson’s caliber? Would they trade Kenny Pickett? How about one of the young guys on defense? How many picks would Minnesota ask for? Can the Steelers afford him? Does bringing Jefferson in put the Steelers in cap hell?

A trade for Justin Jefferson seems unlikely, but I’m here for the excitement. One could dream about Jefferson and Pickens teaming up and contending for the Super Bowl. The Steelers need a receiver and should look at Jefferson if available.
