Steelers Week 3 MV3’s

Was it perfect? Not even close. Was it needed? Absolutely. The Steelers get a nice win in Foxborough and remain undefeated on the road. A defensive Sunday afternoon as the Steelers got five takeaways, five sacks, and allowed their lowest amount of points since week two last year. The offensive side however, was lackluster. 44% proficiency on third down, an interception was thrown, and team-wise, committing 50+ yards in penalties. But no matter who is coaching or playing, a win in Foxborough is always nice and still there is much to celebrate. Aaron Rodgers passed his former protégé, Brett Favre, in career passing touchdowns with his 509th. TJ Watt got his first sack of the year. And next week, the Steelers travel to their roots in Ireland. But before we learn the jig, let’s look over the best players from this week!
Honorable Mentions:
CB Brandin Echols - 5 total tackles, 1 pass defense, 1 interception
LB Patrick Queen - 10 total tackles, 1 TFL, 2 pass defenses
DL Derrick Harmon - 2 total tackles, 1 sack, 1 TFL, 1 QB Hit
#3: EDGE Nick Herbig - 2 total tackles, 1 sack, 1 TFL, 1 FF, 4 QB Hits
Number three last week, this week is no different. A big strip sack in the fourth quarter at the Steelers 33-yard line led to the game-winning TD. Herbig continues to prove he’s one of the most underrated edge-rushers in the league as his playmaking abilities flourish when needed most. A former Wisconsin Badger edge-rusher making the big plays in clutch time for Pittsburgh? I’m getting the weirdest déjà vu.
#2: DL Cam Heyward - 6 total tackles, 1 sack, 1 FF, 1 pass defense, 1 QB Hit
The offseason feels so long ago. But if Heyward continues like this, maybe he was right? Now, yes, it felt a little weird, but still, an impressive performance by the former Buckeye. A KEY play by Cam Heyward caused a fumble literally at the 1-yard line and a recovery to give Pittsburgh the ball back despite a bad interception.
#1: LB TJ Watt - 5 total tackles, 2 sacks, 1 FF, 1 FR, 2 TFL, 2 QB Hits
He’s baaaaack. Fans have talked about the possibility that the extension that Watt signed over the summer was a mistake. “He’s washed. He peaked in 2021. He’s 30. Trade him.” And for a little bit, it seemed to be a possibility. Not anymore. The former Badger comes back with a huge Watt charge with 90 HZ of electricity going right through your offensive line! A big sack in the second quarter, a forced fumble in the third, a fumble recovery that led to the game-winning touchdown and another sack in the fourth. Is this the game that will give Watt and the defense the momentum needed to keep it steady?
Next week, the Steelers play against the Minnesota Vikings, the team that just beat an AFC North rival 48 - 10. Will the Steelers be able to handle the onslaught of Justin Jefferson, TJ Hockenson, Carson Wentz, and even former Steelers defensive lineman, Javon Hargrave! With the Irish roots in the Rooney family, the Steelers will be cheered loudly. Gonna be a good one as two 2-1 teams from respected North divisions collide at…9AM? Gonna be an early slate.
